Frequently Asked Questions

What is hospice care?

Hospice is a specialized type of care focused on providing comfort, dignity, and quality of life for those facing a life-limiting illness. At Caring Hearts of Texas, we emphasize emotional and spiritual support alongside medical care, ensuring patients and families feel fully supported.

Who is eligible for hospice?

Eligibility generally applies to individuals with a life expectancy of six months or less, as certified by a physician, should the illness run its natural course. It is for those who are transitioning from curative treatments to a focus on comfort and peace.

How much does hospice care cost?

Hospice care is typically fully covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance plans. This coverage includes medical equipment, medications related to the hospice diagnosis, and the support of our entire care team, leaving families to focus on connection rather than costs.

Where is hospice care provided?

Care can be provided wherever the patient calls home. This include private residences, assisted living facilities, or nursing homes across our South Texas service areas in McAllen, Corpus Christi, and San Antonio.

What support is available for the family?

We offer comprehensive support including education on patient care, emotional counseling, spiritual guidance, and bereavement services. Our goal is to empower the whole family with the tools and peace of mind they need during this time.

Can I still see my personal doctor?

Absolutely. We encourage and support the continued involvement of your primary physician. Our team works closely with your doctor to ensure that the plan of care reflects your specific medical needs and personal wishes.

What happens if needs change?

Hospice is flexible. If a patient's condition improves or they choose to seek curative treatment again, they can leave hospice at any time and re-enroll later if eligible. We are here to adapt to your family's journey.

How do we get started?

Getting started is as simple as a phone call. We can provide a no-obligation consultation to answer your specific questions and help you determine if hospice care is the right path for your family.
